How Roles Work
Axion uses a role-based permissions system. Your organization has an overall structure, and each workspace has its own roles that control what you can see and do. Your role determines whether you can create dashboards, edit issues, invite teammates, configure alerts, and more.
The Roles You Might Have
Administrator
The most powerful customer-facing role. Administrators can access all workspaces within the organization, create new workspaces, invite users, and assign roles. If your organization needs a new workspace set up or a user added, an Administrator handles it.
Workspace Manager
Full access within their assigned workspace(s). Workspace Managers can invite users to their workspace, manage workspace settings, create and edit dashboards, manage issues, configure alerts, and customize pipeline stages. This is the go-to role for team leads.
Workspace Contributor
The standard working role for most users. Contributors can view all data, create and edit charts and dashboards, edit issues, add comments and attachments, explore data, and export results. They cannot invite users or change workspace settings.
Workspace Viewer
A read-only role. Viewers can see dashboards and issues and export data, but they cannot create or edit content. Note: this role may not be available in all organizations.
External Collaborator
A limited-access role designed for partners or external parties. External Collaborators can view dashboards that have been specifically shared with them, see limited issue details, and add comments and tags. They cannot export data or drill into charts. Note: this role may not be available in all organizations.
What Each Role Can Do
Here’s a simplified overview of key capabilities by role:
- Create/edit dashboards and charts: Contributor and above
- Edit issues, add comments, set countermeasures: Contributor and above
- Export data (CSV, PNG): Contributor and above (not External Collaborator)
- Configure alerts: Workspace Manager and above
- Customize pipeline stages (Kanban labels): Workspace Manager and above
- Invite users to a workspace: Workspace Manager and above
- Create new workspaces: Administrator only
The specific features available may vary depending on how your organization is configured.
Inviting Teammates
If you’re an Administrator or Workspace Manager, you can invite new users to your workspace. Navigate to the workspace settings and add their email address along with the role you’d like to assign. They’ll receive an invitation email to set up their account.
