AI Chat: Investigate Your Issues
Use the AI chat to analyze your issue data, find root causes, and dig into patterns.

What AI Chat Does

AI Chat is how you investigate an issue in Axion. It sits in a panel on the right side of every issue and can analyze the data associated with that issue. Ask it what's happening, where to look, or why something is trending, and it will work through your data to find answers.

The chat is scoped to the issue you're on. It works with the data and context within that specific issue, so everything it produces is relevant to what you're investigating.

Where to Find It

When you open any issue, the AI chat panel is on the right side of the page. You can resize it by dragging the edge, or collapse and expand it with the button in the header. The panel pushes the content on the left side over instead of floating on top of it, so you can always see both your data and the chat at the same time.

How to Use It

Type a question in the input box at the bottom of the chat panel. The AI will analyze your issue's data and respond with findings.

As the AI works, you'll see step-by-step progress showing what it's doing: pulling data, running calculations, comparing segments, and building its analysis. This lets you follow the reasoning behind the answer, not just see the final result.

You can ask follow-up questions and each one builds on what came before. The chat maintains context across the conversation, so you can go deeper without re-explaining what you've already covered. For example, if you ask for a summary and then ask "break that down by model," the AI knows what "that" refers to.

What to Ask

Here are some good starting points:

  • "Summarize what's happening with this issue"
  • "Break this down by [dimension]" (e.g. model, family, plant, build date)
  • "What are the top contributors?"
  • "Why is [component/symptom] trending up?"
  • "Compare [category A] vs [category B]"
  • "What does the root cause look like?"
  • "Show me the raw records for [segment]"
  • "What changed in the last 3 months?"
  • "Which plant has the highest rate?"

You can start broad and get more specific as you go. The chat remembers what you've already discussed.

Adding Files to the Chat

You can upload files directly in the chat to bring additional context into your investigation. Drag a file into the chat input or click the attachment button to upload.

When you upload a file in the chat, it's also added to the issue's Case Files by default so it stays with the issue for your team. You can toggle this off if you don't want the file saved to Case Files.

The AI can use uploaded images and PDFs as context for its analysis. For example, you can upload a photo of a defect and ask the chat what it sees, or share an inspection report and ask it to summarize the findings alongside your issue data.

Tips for Best Results

  • Start with a summary. Orient yourself before drilling in. The AI's overview often highlights the most interesting threads to follow.
  • Use your field names. Reference the dimensions and metrics you see in your issue for the best accuracy. The AI works with the same fields you see on the left side of the page.
  • Ask "why" not just "what." The chat can reason about causes, compare segments, and look for what's different. Push it beyond just describing the data.
  • Keep going. If the chat produces something useful, ask it to slice the finding a different way, dig into a specific segment, or compare against another dimension. The best investigations are multi-step.
  • Upload supporting materials. If you have photos, reports, or other files relevant to the investigation, bring them into the chat so the AI can factor them in.
  • Validate results. AI Chat is a powerful analysis tool, but findings should be reviewed before making decisions. Use the outputs as a starting point, not a final answer.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Does the AI have access to all the data in my issue?

A: Yes. The AI can analyze all the data associated with your issue, including records across all linked datasets. It works with the same data you see in the tabs on the left side of the page.

Q: Can I ask about data outside of this issue?

A: Not currently. The AI chat is scoped to the issue you're on. It can only analyze the data and context within that specific issue. We're expanding scope over time.

Q: Does the chat remember my previous conversations?

A: The chat maintains context within a single conversation. If you close the chat and come back later, it will start a new conversation. For ongoing investigations, try to work through your questions in one session.

Q: I uploaded a file but the AI didn't reference it.

A: Make sure you ask a question about the file after uploading it. The AI won't automatically analyze a file unless you ask it to. Try something like "What do you see in this image?" or "Summarize the findings in this report."

Q: The AI gave me an answer that doesn't look right.

A: AI results are not guaranteed to be perfect. If something looks off, try rephrasing your question or asking the AI to show its work in more detail. You can also cross-reference the findings with the data in the tabs on the left. If you believe there's a bug, let your Axion contact know.

Q: Can I export or save what the chat produces?

A: You can copy text from the chat responses. The findings stay in the chat panel for the duration of your conversation.
